Entre botas y votos. Las políticas universitarias durante la "Revolución Argentina". Del golpe de Estado de 1966 a las elecciones de 1973

In this PhD thesis we aim to analyze the university policies that were implemented during the dictatorship that took place in Argentina between 1966 and 1973. Specifically we are interested in shedding light on the process by which new national universities were created, and which had immediate consequences on the higher education system that went through the second most important reconfiguration in the history of our country until that date. After the coup d´etat of June 1966, the military government decided to implement repressive and restrictive political measures inside the universities in order to restrict the number of students, as well as to depoliticize and demobilize them. In spite of that, at the end of the military period, the higher education system had gone through an unusual expansion in the number of establishments that were created all over the country. In 1968 there were 9 universities, number that went up to 22 in 1973 and 25 in 1975. The question that arises refers to the causes that enabled those changes in the university policies. In the same order, other questions arise referring to the specific forms that this process took place, highlighting on the protagonists, the discussions that led to the change of direction and its consequences. In this sense, we consider it’s not possible to analyze this university politics if not in light of the political context in which they took place. To do so, we include in our analyses the political context in which the coup d´etat was developed, as well as the objectives and the measures that were implemented since June 1966 until the government elections in May 1973. In resume, we aim to account the consequences that the self-claimed “Argentinian Revolution” brought to the national universities, by analyzing the general political and economic context.
